Since launch, it has been clear that the M4 is the most superior assault rifle in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The weapon offers the best mobility of any other in the class and certainly has the fewest flaws. No matter how awesome it is, the M4 still requires a collection of attachments to keep it viciously accurate from short to long ranges. This is how you should build the M4 in MW2.
Best M4 Loadout in MW2
For the M4 to be at its best, its loadout in Modern Warfare 2 should primarily aim to calm its kick. Otherwise, the weapon’s potential at long range is effectively thrown away, as the weapon experiences extreme recoil the longer its shot. Additionally, the ADS needs a much-needed boost to ensure the M4 can keep up with even the best SMGs. Below are all the attachments and perks you need for this M4 class setup.
- barrel: Hightower 20″
- optics: SZ Lone Wolf
- magazine: 45-round magazine
- snout: Echoline GS-X
- Rear handle: Phantom Grip
- perk pack
- Basic Benefits: Double Time and Scavengers
- Bonus Perk: Fast hands
- Ultimate Advantage: High alert
The first bond you should strive for is this Echoline GS-X, a suppressed snout guaranteeing your location remains under wraps. There may be countless other muzzles that give this ability, but the Echoline is the only one that doesn’t affect your ADS time. This can make your leveling journey a breeze while you work for the weapon’s most important add-on – the Hightower 20″. Although your movement and ADS speeds will be slowed a bit, the barrel alone is responsible for increasing the M4’s speed, range, recoil, and hipfire accuracy. In short, the attachment makes the M4 a precise, powerful tool at all distances.
It’s worth noting that players shouldn’t extend the weapon’s magazine unless it’s with the 45 round Like. If you go for something bigger, the M4 is vulnerable to almost all faster-firing SMGs, snipers, and even pistols. Since these above add-ons lower almost every mobility stat, you will surely need the Phantom Grip. This rear grip gives you an overwhelming boost in ADS speed, so much so that we strongly advise you to use every other weapon on the M4 platform as well.

Honestly your optics is purely a matter of taste, but newcomers to the M4 are safest with the choice SZ Lone Wolf, as its large reticle greatly facilitates weapon training. Your benefits package then focuses on increasing your speed with benefits such as double time and fast hands. Since Double Time allows you longer sprint times, Fast Hands allows the reload process to take just a second. Finally, the package can be completed with ass vulture to reward you with extra ammo from fallen bodies and High alert which shows you the location of nearby enemies.
